Notes for Slab Cup 2:

Extend the edges of the cup. Trace the cup, then move it a few inches to the right and then to the left, keeping the top and bottom edges lined up.
Use a rib tool, gift card, credit card, etc... to smooth out and compress the clay slab so that it doesn't crack
Taper the rim of the mug on both sides (instead of just one)
Stamp your cup
Wrap the slab around the cup, with an overlap
Cut the overlapping slabs with a 45 degree angle cut, then score and slip them together. Compress the edges together well.
Cut the bottom of the cup. Stamp your name/initials. Score and slip together.

Handle:

Fold paper in half to create a symmetrical template
Trace and cut out your handle
Use your finger (wet) to smooth and and taper the sharp edges, into smooth, rounded edges
Run your fingers down the length of the handle to smooth it out (fingers should be wet)
Let it sit on the table, in a curved shape, until it stiffens up enough to attach it without it being floppy

Remove the paper cup from the inside BEFORE it's too late! Once it starts to shrink, it will crack! Just keep the paper cut in long enough that you've done all of your work. After you pull the cup out, don't touch it until it is leather hard enough to hold its shape.
